About Jason Washington / CaymanJason

Jason Washington, also known as CaymanJason, is a Caymanian underwater photographer, filmmaker, professional scuba diver, scuba instructor, freediving photographer, and owner of Ambassador Divers in Grand Cayman. Based in the Cayman Islands, Jason creates fine art underwater photography, cinematic ocean imagery, and commissioned underwater campaign work shaped by real ocean conditions, natural light, and years of experience beneath the surface.

Known within the underwater photography world for his ambient-light approach, Jason’s work helped push a modern visual language for natural-light underwater photography—one that feels more organic, emotional, and connected to the sea than the heavily artificial look often associated with traditional strobe-lit underwater images. Rather than overpowering the ocean with artificial light, Jason works with sunlight, depth, breath, movement, water clarity, and timing to create images that feel cinematic, honest, and alive.

Much of Jason’s photography is created while freediving, allowing him to move naturally with models, marine life, and the shifting rhythm of the water. His images often appear surreal, but they are built through real underwater technique: breath-hold diving, composition, patience, ocean knowledge, and trust between photographer, subject, and sea. This freediving-based process gives his work a sense of movement and atmosphere that has become central to the CaymanJason style.

As a Caymanian artist, Jason’s work is deeply connected to the waters of the Cayman Islands. His photography reflects the beauty, scale, and fragility of the marine world, transforming underwater moments into fine art images for collectors, ocean lovers, interior designers, conservation-minded audiences, and brands seeking authentic ocean storytelling.

Alongside his fine art practice, Jason is available for select underwater photography and filmmaking commissions, including underwater portraiture, ocean lifestyle campaigns, dive-industry media, brand storytelling, and conservation-aligned visual projects. His experience includes collaborations and client work with organizations such as Apple TV, Adidas, Major League Soccer, CNN, PADI, Yema Watches, Cressi, Waterborn, and Cayman Islands DOT.

Today, CaymanJason represents a rare blend of underwater artistry, professional dive expertise, Cayman Islands heritage, and modern ocean visual storytelling. His work invites viewers to see the underwater world not as a backdrop, but as a living space filled with emotion, light, movement, and meaning.
